Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used for the collection, display, modeling, and analysis of spatial data, e.g. in hydrology, geography, environmental research and landscape planning.

The evaluation of date measurements is conducted by using different interpolation techniques such as spline or griging and shown on maps, field maps or aerial photographs. Groundwater contour maps or temperature distributions can be calculated and displayed that way.
